NorwegianWoodPickers is a series of wood, wood/metal, horn & bone guitar picks handcrafted from selected Norwegian woods like Oak, Apple, Ash, Blood Beech, Hazelnut & Kebony Maple. Handcrafted with care, enthusiasm, and admiration for wood as the perfect material for crafting Fine Tiny Musical Instruments™. The picks are crafted specifically to enhance the richness of tone in the guitar.

A guitar is built with different woods, metals and other natural materials, e.g. body, neck, fingerboard, rosewood, maple, mahogany, ebony, bridge, saddle, brass, metal, nut, plastic, bone, metal, synthetic bone, strings, flat wound or round wound. Components that individually are part of shaping the unique tone of an instrument. Should there be paid more attention to the guitar pick as an integral part of the guitarist’s rig?

Milrid, Myrthild, Sønni, Sollin, Ågåt, Hedda, Olin & Peroline

B.B. King’s “Lucille”, Stevie Ray Vaughan’s “Lenny” and “Number One”, Billy Gibbon’s “Muddywood”, Eric Clapton’s “Blackie”, Neil Young’s “Old Black”, Albert King’s “Lucy”, “Willie Nelson’s ” Trigger”.

We didn’t want to simply name our picks standard, mini or flat, we wanted something unique. Something that over time would manifest itself as the perfect name for that particular pick shape. Kinda like a guitar name. You know the ones we’re talking about. We thought about Norwegian history and decided to use old traditional female names.

Shapes, Tips, Gauges & Tone

The All Wood Series comes with a rounded tip. Blunt, Sharp and Carved Edge is available in The Custom Shop.

SHAPES – 8 shapes based on vintage guitar picks. After hundreds of hours of shaping wood picks we came up with 8 shapes that we believe will satisfy not only most guitar players, but also bass players.

TIPS – Early in the development stage we noticed the tip of the pick accent the sound. So we listened. Sanded.Listened some more.Sanded some more and so on, to find the ultimate tip. We came up with 4 distinct tips; Blunt, Rounded, Sharp, Carved Edge. Each of these tips accents the tone in different ways like warmth, bass and treble.

GAUGE – There is also distinct differences in tone quality with different thickness. Any thickness can be crafted, however, we offer a selection of gauges for all 8 shapes that we believe would suit most guitar players.

TONE – NorwegianWoodPickers want to give the professional guitarist, electric or acoustic, the option of getting the purest tones possible from their instrument. We believe our Custom Shop Wood/Metal and All Wood Series picks can provide that purity.

Wake Up & Smell The BeesWax !

Beeswax was among the first plastics to be used alongside other natural polymers such as gutta-percha, horn, shellac, and tortoiseshell.

Beeswax is a natural wax produced by worker bees in the hive of honey bees of the genus Apis. It is mainly esters of fatty acids and various long-chain alcohols. The honey bees use the beeswax to build honeycomb cells in which their young are raised with honey and pollen cells being capped for storage.

Its colour varies from nearly white to brownish, but most often a shade of yellow, depending on purity and the type of flowers gathered by the bees. We have experimented with different brands and types of beeswax trying to find the perfect combination of grip and aesthetics, and we believe we nailed it.

NorwegianWoodPickers Custom Shop wood/metal pick ships in a tiny wood freight crate with a vintage worn cloth with beeswax. This cloth adds grip and protects the wood.

The Wood Pick Aesthetics

Please understand that no two pieces of wood are identical. Therefore, no two NorwegianWoodPickers’ wood picks will be exactly alike. Product photos on this website should be used only as a guide to what a product will resemble, not as an exact representation. Tiny differences should be expected in each product’s construction, as minor deviations are inherent to NorwegianWoodPickers’ handcrafted manufacturing process.

Fortunately, NorwegianWoodPickers’ one-by-one product construction approach guarantees individual attention to detail and quality assurance in every single wood pick to leave the wood shop. The Custom Shop communicates directly with the guitarist regarding specs. and options.
